Team & Approach

Three perspectives, one question about collaboration across disciplines.

Expertise

Jaydan contributes communication, teamwork, and coordination experience. Andrew, a music major, contributes a creative arts perspective. Spencer brings a premedical perspective, analytical thinking, leadership, and project organization. These perspectives guide our questions; they do not make us experts in every field studied.

Approach

We compare four published artifacts across expert and public audiences, examining genre, context, purpose, credibility, and three reader-centered strategies in each. We distinguish demographic diversity from functional differences in expertise, and citation impact from team performance.

Proposed Application

A medical portal project connects clinicians and software developers. We propose shared definitions, clear responsibilities, and constructive discussion of disagreements. This is a future application of our literature review, not a completed case study, survey, interview, or experiment.

Background

Our proposal identifies communication, leadership, and conflict management as factors worth investigating. Chang and Yeh (2014) examines disagreement and communication in cross-functional product teams; its findings should not be reduced to a rule that all conflict is harmful.
